29 march 2008, 8pm sharp, an extraordinary moment has happened across the globe, including the place which i am staying right now, UM tzu ching house. Remarkably, this extraordinary moment actually was achieved by a single ordinary action: just turn off your light gently. But the most extraordinary element for this ordinary action was: every single individual did the same action, that specific time and date!! Incredible! This great event has been named "Earth Hour 2008", according to the statistic, there are more than 30 million of population from 350 cities across the world had contributed in achieving for this wonderful moment, honorably, i was one of them.

"Massive blackout" in my house.... for sake of Earth...

In fact, there were not many neighbor houses joined this spectacular event, they were even uninformed of it. This is due to lack of environmental awareness in Malaysia. Nonetheless, i was quite surprised when i realized that there were two ASEAN cities, i.e. Manila and Bangkok were listed in the partner cities of Earth Hour 2008, so Malaysia government and people have to put on much effort to strengthen the awareness of environmental protection in our society. Ok, lets show you guys a video which i made for this Earth Hour 2008, enjoy it...

Recycling...

From now onward, this blog will largely focus on "how to lead a green life?", due to deteriorating environment problem, being green is undoubtedly a new living fashion at current backdrop of global warming issue. If we are not going to change our mindset, adjust our lifestyle to adapt this climate change, a global catastrophe is predicted and inevitable.

Recycling is one of green lifestyle. Recycling can be defined as the act of removing from the overall waste stream those materials that can be reused in their original or reconstituted form. It is the process by which materials are collected and used as raw materials for new products.

There are four main steps in recycling: collecting the recyclable components of municipal solid waste, separating materials by type, processing them into reusable forms and purchasing and using the goods made with reprocessed materials. Recycling prevents potentially useful materials from being land filled or combusted, thus preserving our capacity for disposal.

Then, what is the objective of doing recycle? Just because nothing to do after meal? Well, recycling can saves natural resources, saves energy which is used to produce a new item. Besides that, recycling can reduce pollution during produce a new item. Other than that, byproduct of recycling, i think it maybe can provide some additional job opportunities. yea, recycling have full of benefit to us and our mother nature. Do you believe it or not, recycling aluminum uses 95% less energy than making new aluminum. The energy saved can power a TV for three hours!

ok, in my following posts, i will continue to talk more about how to categorize recyclable item, and show my experience in recycling.
